Merritt photograph collection consists of photos from two U.S. Army general officers. 83photos relate to the career of Brigadier General Charles P. Bixel. Several show miscellaneous scenes of the 5th U.S. Cavalry Regiment at Fort Bliss in 1943. Most, however, relate to his service with the United Nations (U.N.) Military Armistice Commission in Korea in 1955 and 1956. Several photos show activities surrounding his retirement in 1957. The remainder of the collection covers the later career of General Merritt. Only 11 miscellaneous photos relate to his career before he became a general officer. The loose photos of box 1 cover the period from 1975 to 1980 and show parties, promotions, dedications, presentations, speeches, Officers Club functions, reviews, etc. The 1975-1976 photos reflect his service with the 1st Cavalry Division. Photos also cover his visits to Germany in 1978 and 1980 reflect of General Merritt's tenure at Fort Sill. There are four large albums in two oversize boxes. Three of them cover commandant activities at the U.S. Army War College: one for 1980-1981; one for 1981-1982 and one for 1982. The fourth album covers General Merrit's trip to Berlin in March, 1986.
